Barkly Bees

Meet Henry from Backyard Honey

Introducing the Barkly Bees! Our local residents that have been up on the Barkly Square Shopping Centre roof for a number of years.

Barkly is home to four colonies of honey bees (apis mellifera) who help pollinate local plant species across an area of 30km2.

Our beehives sit on the roof of our shopping centre and are lovingly managed by Backyard Honey. Each year we collect anywhere between 60-80kg of honey per year.

Bees in urban areas such as Brunswick help pollinate plants, support biodiversity, boots local food production and contribute to healthier and greener neighborhoods.
